HORTICULTURE AND SPECIAL EXHIBITS DIVISION RULES
1. Classes shall be open only to members (amateur or commercial) of AVSR with the exception of classes 37, 38, 39, and 40 Section 1, classes 1 & 2 are open only to members of AVSA; classes 3-6 are open only to members of NYSAVS; class 7 is open only to members of MAAVS. Commercial members may enter all classes
2. All horticulture entries shall be presented Friday April 11th between 3:00 and 10:00 pm. Exhibits will be accepted prior to 8:00 on Saturday, April 12th, with previous registration with Show Chairman. Only clean, healthy plants shall be accepted. Classification Committee shall have final authority. Specimen plants shall have been in the exhibitor's possession for ninety (90) days. ALL exhibits shall be in bloom. All African violet exhibits, except for species and trailers, shall be single crowned.
3. An exhibitor shall make only one (1) entry of a variety in any one class in the Horticulture division. Classes 1-7 shall be limited to one (1) entry per exhibitor. Classes may be subdivided at the discretion of the Show Chairman.
4. Exhibitors shall submit a list of entries in schedule and class order to the Classification Committee at the time of entry. All African violet species, cultivars and other gesneriads shall be correctly named. All plant names shall be subject to correction by Classification Committee. Plant registration numbers shall be included for entries in Classes 1 and 2.
5. Vintage Violets shall be those hybrids registered 25 or more years before the date of the show, or which can be documented as having been released 22 or more years before the show.
6. New introductions shall have been originated by the exhibitor or written release rights shall have been obtained from the originator. Plants shall not have been previously exhibited at an AVSR show.
No exhibit shall be removed until closing time of the show, Sunday April 13th at 4:00 pm. Exhibitors are reminded to remove exhibits promptly. Precautions shall be taken to afford all possible protection, but all entries shall be made at the exhibitors risk.
Exhibits shall be merit judged by AVSA judges using the AVSA scale of points. All African violet exhibits must be in bloom, only blue ribbon exhibits are eligible for special awards.
DESIGN DIVISION RULES:
1. Classes shall be open to all AVSR members.
2. Exhibitors shall be limited to one (1) entry in each design class and shall provide a substitute if unable to fill reservations.
3. African violets shall be emphasized. One or more plants or cut flowers may be used. No artificial plant material, national flags, nor live animals shall be allowed.
4. Dried, treated, or painted plant material shall be allowed, but all designs shall include some fresh material in addition to the African Violet blossoms, foliage and/or plants unless specifically stated otherwise in the schedule. The New York State Conservation Law shall apply, but plant material grown commercially or by the exhibitor shall be allowed.
5. Niches for all classes are white. Accessories shall be permitted in all classes. Backgrounds (i.e. drapes) shall be permitted in all classes, except classes 49, 51, 54, 55 and 56. TAPE SHALL NOT BE PERMITTED TO SECURE BACKGROUNDS TO NICHES.
6. No exhibit shall be removed after entry. Exhibitors shall replace spent cut blossoms with fresh ones while the show is open.
7. Plants may be purchased at any time for design, but all shall be disease and insect free.
8. Reservations for entry space shall be made no later than Friday, April 4th to Barbara Festenstein.
